The Cookie Case is a fun culmination to Summer Reading for teens. In this program, teens will create for each other and decipher a series of clues that lead to a cache of historical Petaluma baking recipes. We will have a small presentation on Petaluma culture in the 1960's, and together, we will construct a cookbook for an imaginary historical bakery in Petaluma, complete with selfies using functional baking props that teens will take home at the end. And of course, there will be cookies!
Teens will learn three ciphers, and one code, and also share vignettes about their favorite media that we will place with their selfies in the zine that we create together. The recipes are sourced from real Petaluma cookbooks from the Petaluma Regional Library's historical archive, and selected by the teens. They will go home with baking supplies, the zine, knowledge of historical ciphers and how to use them, and an idea of what historical Petaluma was like!
