Seeking Liberation Through Art: A Conversation with Casper Cendre of ABO Comix, Rima Makaryan of The Monarch Project, &  Deseree Fontenot of Shelterwood Collective

ABO Comix

A.B.O. is a collective of creators and activists who work to amplify the voices of LGBTQ prisoners through art. By working closely with prison abolitionist and queer advocacy organizations, we aim to keep queer prisoners connected to outside community and help them in the fight toward liberation.

The Monarch Project

In today’s volatile political climate, the basic rights of immigrants are being violated. We aim to humanize and support the immigrants in our community by telling their stories through art and raising awareness about the injustices they face.

Shelterwood Collective

Shelterwood is a Black, Indigenous, and LGBTQ-led community forest and retreat center, healing people and ecosystems through active stewardship and community engagement. As a collective of land and community protectors, we model how ecosystem health can only be achieved by communities who are in deep relationship with the earth and with one another. Shelterwood’s work extends beyond our forest edge through training & programming focused on antiracism, decolonizing conservation, inspiring resilient leadership, promoting artistic expression, and community health.
