Binding, Printing & Connecting: A Xicana Indigenous Perspective with Amanda Ayala

Amanda Ayala (she/ella) is a multidisciplinary Xicana Indigenous artist who paints in watercolor, gouache and acrylics, binds multimedia art books and has a community art creation practice. She loves finding spaces online and in person to think and create with people. She loves keeping watercolors and other art supplies in her bolsa to make art on the go and with those around her.

In this session, Amanda will share:

  • how and why she creates multimedia art books.
  • folding technique to make a mini zine.
  • how she uses block printing in her art
  • theory about artist liberation and why it’s important
  • how her indigenous work has impacted her art making process
