Local high school students developed a Black Lives Matter awareness campaign around the outside of the Sebastopol Library in 2021, which was vandalized in February 2022. The Library staff and City of Sebastopol staff knew there needed to be a response to funnel the community anger, fear and disappointment into something positive for the community, and the “Paint out Hate” campaign was born. The sidewalks between the Sebastopol Area Community Center, past the Sebastopol Library and on to the Sebastopol Arts Center will have locally inspired artwork illustrating that tolerance and respect have a place in our community. Walking along the sidewalk will expose pedestrians to positive messages of the community’s hopes for inclusivity, kindness, and love. We have 200+ sidewalk pieces to fill and want your ideas!
