Windsor LAB Meeting

March 11, 2025 @ 4:00 PM

1.    CONVENING & INTRODUCTIONS

Present: Eleanor McFarlin, Judy Gerstle, Maryos Kuiper, and Mike Neely

Others present: Barbara Maes, and Phil Hoeft

Not present: Vin Mahraj

Members of the public present: None

2.    PUBLIC COMMENTS

None. 

3.    APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE PRIOR MEETING

The minutes were approved.

4.    REPORTS & UPDATES

Reports and updates on library governance, management, programs, services and support group activities as well as City Council activities. All items are for discussion only.

       4.1.  TOWN COUNCIL LIAISON'S REPORTS

Not present.

       4.2.  LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Maes provided the report. Women’s History Month is being celebrated at the Library from Mar. 1-31. The Library is providing tax forms. Library branches will be closed on Mar. 31 in observance of the Cesar Chavez holiday. The Windsor Regional Library reopened on Mar. 3 after its renovation project. There was a Friends and Volunteers appreciation event prior to the re-opening. Study pods have yet to be purchased for Windsor, but that will be happening soon. Healdsburg and Petaluma renovations are ongoing; Cloverdale renovations to begin soon. 

       4.3.  LIBRARY COMMISSIONER'S REPORT

Not present.

       4.4.  BRANCH MANAGER'S REPORT

Hoeft provided the update. Staff are still unpacking some materials. No events at the library for the next month or so while unpacking continues. Staff are happy with the renovation. Library users have expressed their approval of the renovation; appreciation of more chairs and seating, as well as more light in the building.  

       4.5.  FRIENDS OF THE WINDSOR LIBRARY REPORT

Neely provided the update. Friends Book Cart is back open in the Windsor Library. 

       4.6.  LAB CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING REPORT

Neely provided the update. Two LAB chairs were present. All-LAB meeting to be scheduled; poll to be coming out. The JPA review is ongoing; a Library Commission committee is working on the review process. 

5.    DISCUSSION ITEMS

       5.1. DISTRIBUTION OF OUTREACH BOOKS

Discussion of outreach opportunities. Neely combined survey. Hoeft to distribute draft of survey. Possibilities: open house at the branch, outreach at Farmer’s Market. 

6.    ACTION ITEMS

McFarlin moved that the LAB investigate having outreach at Farmer’s Market. Seconded by Kuiper. Approved unanimously. 

7.    MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Gerstle mentioned that there was a showing of “Free for All” at the Central Santa Rosa Library, and wondered if a showing of the film would be possible at Windsor? Could the LAB provide outreach at such an event?

Kuiper participated in a recent Women’s March.
