Looking to get involved in local climate action?
We are Teach Climate & Redefine It, or TCRI, a Sebastopol-based entirely youth-led 501-c(3)-adjacent organization dedicated to teaching climate education and inspiring climate action in Sonoma County elementary and middle schools. In the past three years since our founding, we've presented over 40 presentations to 7 different schools to get Sonoma County's youth involved and inspired. Many of us are Juniors in high school and feel it is time to pass on our project to new leaders to carry it on. We are hosting a leadership training program for students in grades 6th-10th to learn how to go into classrooms and teach climate education. The objective on our end is to supply the knowledge we gained from running our program for three years to the next generation and act as a helpful resource for whatever guidance, help, and funding they need. Topics explored include: communication with adults (virtual and non-virtual), meeting organization- teamwork and planning, researching credibly- finding out which information to prioritize, public speaking and presentation confidence, fundraising, and of course, scheduling presentations!
The first meeting is going to be Monday November 7th 4:15-5:30 at the Sebastopol Public Library. The first meeting is a no-commitment thing, just to give people interested a chance to check it out. After the first meeting, the commitment would be meeting once a week on Mondays at the library from 4:30-5:30 for 6 weeks. Please RSVP at https://bit.ly/3SOaQIm a week before, but drop-ins are also welcome.
