Windsor LAB Meeting

May 20, 2025 @ 4:00 PM

Windsor Regional Library - Meeting Room

1.    CONVENING & INTRODUCTIONS

Present: Judy Gerstle, Maryos Kuiper, Mike Neely, and Vin Mahraj

Others present: Barbara Maes, Dara Bradds, Deborah Doyle, and Phil Hoeft

Not present: Eleanor McFarlin 

Members of the public present: None

2.    PUBLIC COMMENTS

None.

3.    APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE PRIOR MEETING

The minutes were approved.

4.    REPORTS & UPDATES

Reports and updates on library governance, management, programs, services and support group activities as well as City Council activities. All items are for discussion only.

       4.1.  TOWN COUNCIL LIAISON'S REPORTS

Not present.

       4.2.  LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Maes provided the report. Summer Reading runs from 6/1-8/9, and is all ages. Participants can earn prizes such as free books, etc. Summer Lunch runs from 6/9-8/8, and is taking place at multiple locations. Windsor not participating this year. Memorial Day is coming up and the Library will be closed in observance. May is Jewish American Heritage Month, as well as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. Sonoma County Library will be celebrating Pride in June, and on June 5th, the Library will raise the Pride flag in a joint ceremony with Town of Windsor.

       4.3.  LIBRARY COMMISSIONER'S REPORT

Doyle provided the report. The JPA review process is underway. Doyle provided a brief overview of the process and next steps, including an upcoming subcommittee meeting in 5/23. The budgeting process is ongoing. The Director evaluation committee is ongoing. The Roseland Library project is moving forward. Doyle visited Washington DC with California State Librarian, and provided the LAB with information about IMLS funding and ongoing federal issues as they impact libraries, and specifically California libraries. 

       4.4.  BRANCH MANAGER'S REPORT

Hoeft provided the report. Branch statistics are back to pre-renovation numbers. Vacant Library Specialist and Associate positions were recently filled. Currently recruiting for vacant Shelver position. Recently provided outreach at Native Arts Festival and will be providing outreach at Windsor Pride.

       4.5.  FRIENDS OF THE WINDSOR LIBRARY REPORT

Neely provided the report. The book cart is making slightly less money than before. The Friends annual membership meeting is scheduled for 6/10 at 4 PM.

5.    DISCUSSION ITEMS

       5.1. LAB MEMBER RECRUITMENT MOVING FORWARD

The LAB discussed member recruitment and the potential for adjusting the LAB roster size if more people applied.

6.    ACTION ITEMS

       6.1. APPROVAL OF SURVEY CONTENT

Survey was approved. Outreach will take place at the Windsor Farmer’s Market on 6/22, from 9:20-12:30. The LAB will be giving away to members of the public who fill out a survey

       6.2. ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Officers were elected: Chair – Mahraj, Vice Chair – Gerstle, Secretary – McFarlin.
