Trailblazing Women Writers: It Matters How We Tell It

Five members of our writer’s group will read from recent works, including two short story collections, two novels, and a nonfiction book. The books will take listeners to Dubai, the world of artificial intelligence, the blurring of boundaries, the comic and the artistic. The diverse group is made of women writers, published and living in the Bay Area, who have helped each other through the writing process, the many drafts, and the marketing.

Speakers

Katie Flynn
Katie M. Flynn is a writer, editor, and educator based in San Francisco. Her short fiction has appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, Tin House, and Tor.com, among other publications. She has been awarded Colorado Review’s Nelligan Prize for Short Fiction, a fellowship from the San Francisco Writers Grotto, and the Steinbeck Fellowship in Creative Writing. Katie holds an MFA from the University of San Francisco and an MA in Geography from UCLA. Her first novel, The Companions, was published in March 2020, and her interconnected collection of short stories, Island Rule, came out last month with Gallery Books.

Tania Malik
Tania Malik is the author of the novel HOPE YOU ARE SATISFIED (Unnamed Press) which was recommended by NPR and named one of the best espionage novels of 2023 by CrimeReads. Her previous novel THREE BARGAINS (W.W. Norton) received a Publishers Weekly Starred review and a Booklist Starred review. Her work has appeared in Electric Literature, Off-Assignment, Lit Hub, Salon.com, Calyx Journal, Baltimore Review, and other publications. She lives in San Francisco’s Bay Area. 

Bridget Quinn
Bridget Quinn, author of Portrait of a Woman: Art, Rivalry & Revolution in the Life of  Adélaïde Labille-Guiard. Her other books, She Votes: How U.S. Women Won Suffrage, and What Happened Next, an Amazon Editors’ pick for Best History Books 2020, and the award-winning Broad Strokes: 15 Women Who Made Art and Made History (in That Order), an Amazon pick for Best Art & Photography Books 2017

Nina Schuyler
Nina Schuyler is the author of the novel Afterword, which is a Foreword INDIE Finalist for science fiction and literary fiction. Her novel The Translator was a finalist for the William Saroyan International Prize for Writing. She teaches at Stanford Continuing Studies. Her award-winning short story collection, In This Ravishing World, will be out in July 2024.

Elizabeth Stix
Elizabeth Stix is the author of the short story collection Things I Want Back from You, which will be released in June 2024. Her stories have appeared in McSweeney's, Tin House, Boulevard, The Los Angeles Times Sunday magazine, and elsewhere.
 

Lit Crawl Sebastopol features over 119 authors from around the Bay Area during its four hours of literary mayhem and will draw hundreds of readers, writers, and revelers to crawl through downtown Sebastopol, listening to readings and celebrating Sonoma County’s spirited and diverse literary community.
