Introduction to Mexican Genealogy

La genealogía es el estudio de la historia de la familia, es decir, la historia del linaje o el árbol familiar. Investigar su genealogía significa construir un árbol genealógico y reunir información sobre los miembros de su familia del pasado reciente y lejano.  En este taller, vamos a aprender como buscar información sobre ellos usando registros civiles (nacimientos, matrimonios y defunciones), y registros eclesiásticos. También hablamos como entender los documentos, como usar mapas, un poco sobre ADN y mucho más.

Laura Gonzalez es maestra con 31 años de experiencia. Nacío en San Francisco y es de herencia mexicana. "Mi interés en la genealogía empezó con mi querida abuelita y los cuentos de su niñez y de nuestra familia. Ya tengo más de 15 años haciendo mi pasatiempo favorito, y ayudando a otros como empezar su búsqueda de antepasados mexicanos."

Are you trying to find your Mexican ancestors and begin your Mexican genealogy but don’t know where to start? In this Spanish-speaking workshop, participants will learn how to find and interpret births, marriages and deaths in civil and church records, how to use maps, a bit about DNA, and much more. 

Laura Gonzalez has been an educator for over 30 years. She was born and raised in San Francisco and is of Mexican heritage. Her interest in genealogy began with her dear granny's stories from her own childhood and their family. Laura has been deeply involved in her favorite hobby for more than 15 years and is now helping others to start their search for Mexican ancestors.
