Meet artist Claude Smith, whose paintings entitled, Free-Jazz in a WTF World, is displayed at the Sebastopol Regional Library from March 18, 2024, to April 28, 2024. Poet Jack Crimmins will enhance the reception with poetry readings. Enjoy refreshments, art, and conversation.


Claude Smith has been a working/exhibiting artist for over six decades. In the past four years he has done a deep dive into the world of Free-Jazz music and has generated hundreds of pieces inspired by the compositions and improvisations of Cecil Taylor, Eric Dolphy, Sun Ra, Coltrane and more. 
     The twenty seven pieces in this 2024 exhibition are representative of Free-Jazz in a WTF World.  Smith maintains a studio in Graton California where he draws, paints and mentors students.

Jack Crimmins is the author of Kit Fox Blues, with an introduction by Diane di Prima; The Rust Life; Dancing in the Sun Room; and his latest book, The Edge of Rain, from Littoral Press. He has worked for many years as a licensed psychotherapist and lives in Santa Rosa.
