About From the Inkwell:

"This exhibit focuses on my pen & ink work with a few Silverpoint pieces thrown in for good measure. There are drawings that feature local landscapes and some street scenes in Japan, but these are all images that cry out to be rendered. They all present a unique challenge whether it be the tangled mess of power lines that break up the geometric forms of a back alley or the foliage of the Laguna de Santa Rosa or the darkness of night – these are aesthetic obstacles I feel the need to conquer.

These pieces are all studio work from photographs. They take days and sometimes weeks to finish. Every aspect presents a new puzzle. How do I render an item that is almost obscured by darkness? Whether it’s the cold, hard steel of a locomotive or the soft chin fuzz of a flying pig, everything needs to be rendered as believable.

So, I hope you enjoy this show. I’m thrilled to be able to share my work with you." - Bill Shortridge

About the Artist:

Bill Shortridge is an artist living in Sebastopol. He works in pen & ink, watercolor, oil paints, silverpoint and pencil. His drawing technique reflects a more realistic approach, while his oil paintings explore composition and texture creating a more abstract environment. This dichotomy provides a balance in his work; a spiritual shift that maintains a fresh point of view, re-invigorating inspiration.
